Fibre optic parametric amplifier for high capacity burst-mode access networks

We compare performance of a polarization insensitive fiber optic parametric amplifier (PI-FOPA), commercial erbium doped (EDFA) and discrete Raman (DRA) in 50 km long-reach optical access network transmitting bursts 10 Gbps signal with traffic density ranged from 5% to 97%. demonstrate that for the same power budget PI-FOPA allows transmission bursty up 97% while DRA EDFA are limited 30% 15%, respectively. Alternatively, we allow 3 dB 5 higher than EDFA, respectively, worst case scenario 75% density.
